Work style and personality

You answer questions about how you work: sometimes you choose between two statements, sometimes you rate on a scale how much something describes you. There are no right or wrong answers, but the test compares you with a profile and checks consistency.

Where will you meet it?

Almost every selection: Virtual Job Tryout (55 pairs, e.g. Shell), Harver (HEXACO), SHL (OPQ), Hogan and others. More per company on the Personality page.

How to solve it

Two statements: left “I plan my week ahead”, right “I keep my week open to respond to what comes up”. Buttons: Most, Somewhat, Somewhat, Most.

  1. Ask yourself which statement describes you best at work, not at home.
  2. In doubt? Choose “Somewhat” on that side.
  3. Is one side clearly you? Choose “Most”.

Answer: There is no right side here. It does stand out if you choose the extreme everywhere or answer the opposite later.

Try it yourself

1. A statement comes back later in the test the other way round. What does the test measure with that?

  1. Whether you answer consistently
  2. How fast you are
  3. Your memory
  4. Your English
Show the answer

A. Repeated questions check whether your answers agree with each other. Contradictory answers stand out.

2. What happens if you choose “Most” on almost every pair?

  1. It stands out as unnatural answering
  2. Your score automatically rises
  3. Nothing, it does not matter
  4. The test stops
Show the answer

A. Hardly anyone is outspoken on everything. Many tests watch for extreme or socially desirable patterns.

3. Which approach works best?

  1. Answer honestly, and know which qualities the employer values
  2. Always choose what the employer wants to hear
  3. Click at random to save time
  4. Always choose the middle answer
Show the answer

A. Honest and consistent is safest; if you pretend, it shows in the test or the interview. Knowing the company values helps when in doubt.
